desert and mountains

During my last year at Beloit College in Wisconsin, I chose to study abroad in Ifrane, Morocco for the Fall Semester.

I was amazed to find that my exchange university, Al Akhawayn, taught classes entirely in English and was in the mountains where it snowed in winter.

I also visited the Sahara Desert and traveled along the coast from Casablanca to Tangiers, but spent most of my time in Ifrane and the small towns around it, with many weekend trips to Fes.

Dirhams and Dollars

The exchange rate was about 10 dirhams to the dollar, with 2 dirhams buying a round loaf of bread or a short bus ride.

Ilham

As a woman, I couldn't really leave the college grounds alone. I traveled with other exchange students and with my roommate Ilham. Here is a picture of Ilham, me, and my mother at the Casablanca mosque.
